Update: The motorcycle passenger who was critically injured following Tuesday night’s collision on Nolensville Pike, Mariana Maldonado-Vergara, 19, has died. The fatally injured driver of the motorcycle has been identified as Daniel Velasco-Reyes, also 19.
A motorcyclist was fatally injured late Tuesday night following a collision with a Chrysler SUV in the 2800 block of Nolensville Pike.
The preliminary investigation shows the motorcyclist was riding a 2014 CFMoto 650 north on Nolensville Pike when the driver of a Chrysler Aspen pulled out of a gas station parking lot and was struck by the motorcycle in the rear driver side door. Both the driver and his female passenger were thrown from the motorcycle. They were both transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where the male died. Efforts continue to positively identify him. His passenger, Mariana Maldonado-Vergara, 19, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
There was no evidence of impairment by either driver. The preliminary contributing factor for this fatal crash appears to be speed on the part of the motorcyclist.
