Update: A misdemeanor state citation was issued today against Elizabeth Hernandez, 70, for failure to yield the right of way resulting in death for the April 10th fatal crash that killed motorcyclist Randall Abernathy, 59.
The motorcyclist fatally injured in Friday’s 3:30 p.m. collision on Bell Road at Nashboro Boulevard is identified as Randall Abernathy Sr., 59, of Nashville.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Abernathy was riding his 2025 Harley Davidson Road Glide south on Bell Road when the driver of a 2017 Ford Escape, Elizabeth Hernandez, 70, turned onto Bell Road from Nashboro Boulevard and collided with the motorcycle. Abernathy was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.
Hernandez said she turned right on red, however, it is unknown if Abernathy was traveling straight in a right turn only lane, or if he had the right of way. The investigation continues. There were no signs or indicators of impairment on behalf of either driver.
