Update: The second motorcyclist involved in Friday night’s crash on I-24, Armando Zavala, 20, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, has died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a result of his injuries.
Two speeding and reportedly lane-splitting motorcycles on I-24 west Friday night were involved in collisions with the same Nissan Versa sedan near the Haywood Lane exit, fatally injuring one of the motorcyclists.
The deceased, Terrell Robins Jr., 26, of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, crashed his Suzuki motorcycle into the rear of the Versa, causing the driver of the car to lose control, cross over traffic lanes and strike the second motorcycle, a Honda. Robins was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died. The second motorcyclist, a 20-year-old man from Georgia, was transported to Vanderbilt with critical injuries.
There were no signs of impairment on the part of any driver.
Both motorcyclists were wearing helmets at the time of the crash. Further investigation will be done to determine if they were racing each other.
