Update: The motorcyclist killed in today’s collision with a sedan on I-40 is identified as Chaz Payne, 26, of Nashville.
A 26-year-old motorcyclist was fatally injured in Saturday’s 11:30 a.m. collision with a car on I-40 west near Demonbreun Street. Efforts are underway to notify his next of kin.
The preliminary investigation indicates that he was riding a KTM motorcycle west on I-40 at a high rate of speed and going between lanes when he struck a westbound Acura TLX and lost control. He struck a guardrail and was thrown from the motorcycle. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased. He was not wearing a helmet.
The driver of the Acura was not injured and showed no signs of impairment. Toxicology testing will be conducted to determine whether impairment on the part of the motorcyclist was a factor in the collision.
