Detectives today arrested Nashvillian George Megalaa, 62, for last Friday’s murder of Gerges Youssef, 46, who was fatally shot while driving on Briley Parkway. Youssef’s Honda CR-V came under fire as it traveled southbound on Briley Parkway near Karen Drive. It left the roadway, traveled through a grassy area, and came to rest on Envious Lane.
The investigation, led by Homicide Detective Miranda Vaughan, revealed that Youssef and Megalaa, who were onetime co-workers, were engaged in an ongoing dispute. Megalaa drives a white Volkswagen SUV. Surveillance video from a business on Briley Parkway shows such a vehicle speeding away from the area just after the shots were fired. Megalaa’s cellphone records show that his phone was in the vicinity of Youssef’s Goodlettsville workplace last Friday afternoon and traveled the same route as the victim.
An arrest warrant charging Megalaa with criminal homicide was issued Thursday night. Specialized Investigations Division detectives took him into custody outside his Mooregate Drive home this morning.
