Fatal crash investigators have charged Ethan Harris, 20, of Old Hickory, with vehicular homicide by intoxication for this morning’s two-car collision at Shute Lane & Lebanon Pike in which the BMW sedan Harris was driving went airborne and landed on a Mitsubishi Mirage, killing its driver, James Gable, 60, of Madison.
The preliminary investigation shows that Harris was traveling on Shute Lane toward Lebanon Pike at 2:30 a.m. when he drove off the right side of the road, striking a fence on the property of The Hermitage. The BMW continued across the westbound lanes of Lebanon Pike, struck the center concrete median, went airborne and landed on the roof of the Mitsubishi, which had been traveling east on Lebanon Pike. Gable died at the scene.
Harris was transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment of non-critical injuries. Officers found that Harris had an odor of alcohol and showed indicators of impairment. He was arrested upon his discharge from the hospital. A blood sample from Harris will be analyzed by the MNPD Crime Laboratory.
A judicial commissioner set Harris’ bond at $40,000.
