Update: Michael Crockett was arrested yesterday and charged with vehicular homicide by intoxication.
A pedestrian has died following a hit and run crash last night on Elm Hill Pike and the driver involved has been charged. The preliminary investigation indicates Kathryn Stewart, 37, was walking, possibly in the right hand lane, when she was struck by a Dodge R25 pick-up truck. The truck fled the scene. There are no sidewalks along this stretch of Elm Hill Pike.
Stewart was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where she died.
Michael Crockett, 35, returned to the scene and told officers he was the driver involved in the crash. Crockett reported he did not see Stewart.
Officers observed signs of impairment while talking with Crockett and a search warrant was obtained for his blood sample. Crockett was charged with driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Additional charges are pending.
