Updated: The pedestrian killed Wednesday night on I-24 West has been positively identified as Daniel Eric Whitson, 43, of Nashville.
A male pedestrian, who was not carrying any identification, was struck and killed Wednesday at 8:50 p.m. on I-24 West near the I-40 split after he apparently ran out into the roadway and was struck by the driver of a Nissan Maxima.
The preliminary investigation shows that the Nissan was westbound on I-40 approaching the I-40/I-24 split. As the driver, Tomasina Dixon, took the I-24 West split she was in the left lane of travel. She stated that she saw a person standing in the gore area when they suddenly darted into her lane of travel.
The driver stated that she did not have time to stop before striking the pedestrian, a white man. He was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased upon arrival.
There was no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement at the scene. However, Dixon, 24, did not possess a valid driver’s license or insurance at the time of the crash. She was charged under the Ricky Otts act.
The Medical Examiner is working to positively identify the pedestrian.
