William E. Massey’s connection to drug distribution in Nashville remains under investigation after his arrest today by North Precinct patrol officers who recovered three baggies of fentanyl-laced cocaine, more than $7,000 cash and a digital scale.
Massey, 37, first drew officers’ attention when they noticed the vehicle he was driving in the area of W. Trinity Lane had very darkly tinted windows beyond that permitted by state law. Officers tried to stop Massey for speeding and drifting out of his traffic lane. He pulled over briefly before speeding away. Massey wound up crashing into a parked car in the 2800 block of Jones Avenue. He bailed from his vehicle and ran into nearby woods.
A search of his car led to the discovery of three baggies on the driver’s side floorboard containing a white powder (a total of 77 grams) that tested positive for both cocaine and fentanyl. Also in the vehicle were $4,744 cash and a number of open beer cans. Massey was taken into custody with the assistance of the Canine Unit. Officers found an additional $3,136 on his person along with a digital scale. When Massey heard officers talking about an empty pistol holster located in the vehicle, he was heard to say, “If I would’ve had a gun, I would have shot it out with police.”
Massey is charged with possession of cocaine and fentanyl for resale, leaving the scene of a crash, DUI, felony evading arrest, window tint violation and speeding. His bond is set at $80,000.
Massey was convicted of felony cocaine charges in 2009 and received two ten-year sentences along with an eight-year sentence.
