Update: The driver of the Mercedes sedan involved in Tuesday night’s fatal collision on Old Hickory Boulevard came forward today and admitted to being the driver of the Mercedes sedan that struck motorcyclist James Sellars. The crash remains under investigation and charges are forthcoming. The hit and run vehicle was recovered in the 3400 block of Lebanon Pike.
The motorcyclist killed Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. after he was struck from behind by the hit and run driver of a silver Mercedes SUV at the intersection of Old Hickory Boulevard and Pitts Avenue is identified as James C. Sellars, 33, of Hendersonville.
The preliminary investigation shows that Sellars was stopped at a red light in the southbound lanes of Old Hickory Boulevard when he was struck from behind by a silver smaller style Mercedes SUV. Sellars and his Kawasaki CR 1000 were pushed through the intersection and struck a traffic light pole. He died at the scene.
The driver of the Mercedes SUV, which sustained front end damage, continued southbound on Old Hickory Boulevard. The SUV is missing the front bumper cover which was located at the scene.
