Update: The 48-year-old man fatally shot Saturday on Tampa Drive has been identified as Jamal Judkins, of Hermitage.
A self-defense claim is under investigation following Saturday’s 1:50 a.m. fatal shooting of a 48-year-old man outside of an apartment on Tampa Drive. The investigation indicates the victim persistently began knocking on an apartment door asking to speak to the woman inside.
James Green, 60, lives at the apartment with his girlfriend and answered the door. Green asked the man to leave, but the victim continued to knock on the door. On the third interaction, a physical altercation ensued between victim and Green’s girlfriend, who was acquainted with the victim.
Green told detectives during the altercation, he saw the victim reach for something in his waistband. Green reported he was concerned for their safety and shot the victim once before calling 911.
A BB pistol was recovered from the victim. He died at the scene. Efforts are underway to notify his family.
No charges have been placed against Green at this time.
The fatal shooting investigation will be staffed with the District Attorney’s Office at its conclusion.
