A self-defense claim is under review in this morning's fatal shooting in the parking lot of Bar-B-Cutie on Gallatin Pike North. The investigation, to this point, shows an alleged altercation occurred between Richard Trout, 50, and Skyler Whitefield-Brewner, 23, just after 9 a.m. when shots were fired.
Trout ran into the restaurant with multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he died.
Whitefield-Brewner, who was known by witnesses at the location, fled the scene. Later this afternoon he arrived at MNPD Headquarters to speak with detectives.
No charges have been placed against Whitefield-Brewner in regard to this case. He will, however, be booked on two outstanding warrants for evading arrest and reckless driving tonight.
The fatal shooting investigation will be staffed with the District Attorney's Office at its conclusion.
