The semi-driver fatally injured in Sunday's noon two-vehicle collision on I-40 West and Briley Parkway is identified as a 66-year-old California man. Efforts are underway to contact his next of kin.
The preliminary investigation, along with video evidence, indicates that the driver of a 2018 Toyota Corolla, Mero Abdallah, 18, was entering I-40 West from the Briley Parkway exit ramp when he failed to negotiate the turn from the ramp and drove into the side of the tractor trailer. The collision caused the tractor trailer to roll over. The Corolla traveled off the roadway into a ravine. The driver of the tractor trailer died at the scene. Abdallah, of Mt. Juliet, sustained non life-threatening injuries and was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
There was no evidence of alcohol or drug involvement at the scene of the crash.
