A Street Racer Initiative Saturday night led to the arrest of 12 people, including 7 teenagers, on a total of 47 charges. Investigators tracked known street racing groups to South Nashville where vehicles gathered to perform dangerous driving stunts and shoot off fireworks.
Officers responded to a group in the area of Antioch Pike near Haystack Lane where a Ford Mustang had a passenger hanging out of the vehicle as it was driving. It fled from an attempted traffic stop but was later found on Bell Road near Smith Springs Road doing donuts and shooting fireworks out of the window. The Mustang once again fled from officers, but with assistance from MNPD Aviation, it was successfully stopped.
Of the four occupants inside the Mustang, Michael Urena, 26, admitted to being the driver who fled on Antioch Pike. Urena was charged with inciting a riot, evading arrest, multiple counts of reckless endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of minors. He remains jailed on $45,500 bond.
Another driver was arrested after fleeing from officers on Nolensville Pike early Sunday morning. Granados Zavala, 19, was with a small group of vehicles that were lighting fireworks in the 3700 block of Nolensville Pike before leaving at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was disabled near Zoo Road where Zavala and her five passengers, including four other teenagers, were taken into custody. Inside the vehicle officers located three guns (including a BB gun), THC vapes, and marijuana. Zavala was charged with inciting a riot, evading arrest, several counts of reckless endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She remains jailed on $44,000 bond.
The MNPD Traffic Division is committed to continuing its investigations into street racer groups that are causing damage and harm through their dangerous driving.
