Violent Crimes Division detectives in coordination with officers assigned to the Vehicle Crimes Reduction Initiative last night arrested a Smyrna man wanted on ten vehicle burglary warrants from an incident on July 5. Austin Chapman, 20, was identified as the suspect breaking into cars in a 4th Avenue North parking garage and stealing items from those vehicles.
Chapman was seen by witnesses after car alarms were set off in the garage. One witness attempted to detain Chapman, but he fled on foot.
Chapman dropped his hoodie, a glove, hat, two keys and a tool used to break windows in the process.
He was charged with ten counts of motor vehicle burglary and one count of theft. Chapman is currently being held on $51,000 bond.
