Chief Steve Anderson today announced the appointment of Captain Keith Stephens as Commander of the MNPD’s South Precinct upon next month’s retirement of Commander Paul Trickey.
Trickey, who has led South Precinct operations since 2013, is retiring November 6th after serving the Nashville community for 34 years.
Stephens, currently the department’s Director of Training, is a 17-year MNPD veteran who has served as the Executive Officer in the Community Services Bureau, supervisor over the Traffic Unit, and as a patrol supervisor and officer in the North, Hermitage, West and South Precincts. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia Southern University.
“I am deeply grateful for Commander Trickey’s three decades of service to our police department and the people of Nashville,” Chief Anderson said. “I know that Captain Stephens has already begun working on the transition with Commander Trickey and is beginning to introduce himself to some of the community leaders who live within the 70 square miles covered by the South Precinct.”
Succeeding Stephens as Director of Training is Captain Greg Blair, a 21-year MNPD veteran who currently heads the Records Division. Blair holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Edinboro University.
Succeeding Blair as head of the Records Division is Captain Daniel Newbern, a 19-year MNPD veteran who is presently an overnight Field Supervisor. Newbern holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Excelsior College, a Master’s Degree from Mountain State University, and a Law Degree from Nashville School of Law.
Chief Anderson today also announced the promotion of two lieutenants to the rank of captain effective November 1. They are Dwayne Greene, a 19-year MNPD veteran who presently leads the North Precinct’s day shift, and Scott Byrd, also a 19-year veteran, who presently oversees the SWAT and Special Response Teams. Greene holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee State University and a Master’s Degree from Cumberland University. Byrd holds Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Cumberland University. Both new captains will work as overnight Field Supervisors.
