Brandon Caruthers, 17, the remaining at-large teen from the November 30 Juvenile Detention Center escape, was charged tonight in the adult system with a felony for joining three of his confined colleagues in running from the facility. Caruthers was charged on an adult escape warrant because an aggravated robbery charge from last year had already been transferred to Criminal Court. He is being held tonight on a total bond of $200,000.
Information provided through Nashville Crime Stoppers led to Caruthers apprehension late this afternoon at an apartment on Arbor Crest Boulevard off Bell Road in Antioch. He was taken into custody without incident by MNPD SWAT officers, the Juvenile Crime Task Force, and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force. He had been staying at least since last Sunday with an acquaintance, Brandon Calderon-Sotelo, 20, in an apartment leased by Calderon-Sotelo’s girlfriend, Catherine Woods, 19. Both of them were charged tonight with being accessories after the fact of Caruthers’ escape as well as facilitation of escape.
Recovered from the apartment was an AR-15 assault style rifle with boxes of ammunition.
The arrest of Caruthers brought to an end an intense search for the four escaped teens, all with violent arrest histories. The Juvenile Crime Task Force, Youth Services Division and Gang Unit led this investigation that involved several other MNPD and partner law enforcement components.
