Outstanding response by South Precinct officers early Wednesday morning led to the arrest of three young men who fled from a Brentridge Drive apartment complex in a stolen Nissan Maxima.
Officers responded at 4:30 a.m. to a report of a vehicle break-in. The victim, who reported that one of the suspects had pointed a gun toward them, provided an excellent suspect vehicle description. Officers spotted the Maxima traveling at a high rate of speed on Bell Road near I-24. They initiated a traffic stop but the driver fled, ultimately crashing off Rural Hill Road into a wooded area. All three suspects, Deontay Staten, 22, De’Quaeveon Jackson, 18, and a 17-year-old male, were taken into custody after they fled on foot.
Staten is charged with vehicle theft, evading arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, and being a fugitive from justice for outstanding felony warrants in Kentucky. Staten has a prior vehicle theft conviction in Nashville. His bond was set at $98,000. Jackson is charged with vehicle theft, evading arrest, and leaving the scene of an accident. He is being held on $20,500 bond. The 17-year-old is charged in Juvenile Court with vehicle theft, evading arrest, and leaving the scene of an accident.
