Homicide Unit detectives late Tuesday night charged Trey Scales, 28, with criminal homicide for the 4:25 p.m. fatal shooting of Keanthony Thompson, 30, in the parking lot of the Jack in the Box restaurant on Largo Drive in South Nashville.
Both men were employees of the restaurant. The investigation, led by Detective Shannon Forsyth, shows that they became involved in a physical altercation between their girlfriends, both of whom also work at the Jack in the Box. During the dispute, Scales retrieved a pistol and shot Thompson. Scales said he did so in self-defense; however, that claim was not supported by video surveillance. Thompson died at a local hospital. Scales was taken into custody near the scene by South Precinct officers.
Scales is jailed in lieu of $250,000 bond.
