Two 16-Year-olds Charged in Overnight Crime Spree

Robbery detectives have charged two 16-year-olds in connection with a spree of carjackings and attempted carjackings during the night. One of the teens is charged with five counts of robbery-acting in concert, auto theft, and curfew violation. The other teen is charged with one count of robbery-acting in concert, auto theft, and curfew violation. Additional arrests are anticipated.

As many as five teens are suspected of being involved in these crimes:

• The carjacking of a Ford Fusion sedan from a gas station at 4040 Hillsboro Pike at 2:10 a.m.
• The carjacking of a Honda Accord from a gas station at 648 Thompson Lane at 2:50 a.m.
• The attempted carjacking of a Toyota Rav4 SUV at the Taco Bell parking lot at 2615 Powell Avenue during the 3 a.m. hour.
• The attempted carjacking of a truck at 101 Platform Way N during the 3 a.m. hour.
• The carjacking of a Honda Civic at 500 Rep. John Lewis Way during the 3 a.m. hour.

The victims reported that teens were armed with a long gun and pistols. The Honda Civic was discovered before sunrise on 11th Avenue South at Deford Bailey Avenue.

The two 16-year-olds were arrested there. Three others with them ran into the darkness and got away.

The Ford Fusion was recovered off Jackson Street. The Honda Accord was recovered from Thompson Lane. A stolen Toyota Yaris that the teens used to begin the crime spree was recovered from Deford Bailey Avenue.
