Detectives assigned to a special precision policing robbery initiative Sunday night charged Miguel Morales, 25, and Oscar Torres, 30, with Saturday night’s armed carjacking of the owner of a 2016 Honda Civic in an Annex Avenue parking lot in West Nashville.
The 30-year-old victim reported that he was sitting in his car at approximately 11 p.m. Saturday when two men, one of them armed with a pistol, approached, demanded his belongings, pulled him out of the Honda and drove off.
Sunday evening, detectives located the car in the vicinity of Murfreesboro Pike and, with the assistance of an MNPD helicopter and SWAT officers assigned to the Special Response Team, began surveilling it. The Honda traveled to Berry Road in Berry Hill where Torres got out and was taken into custody. The Honda was stopped at Bransford Avenue and West Iris Drive in Berry Hill where Morales, the driver, was taken into custody. Both men implicated themselves in the carjacking during interviews with detectives Sunday night.
Morales is also wanted in Kentucky for theft of mail.
While searching the Honda tonight, detectives found stolen mail from several Nashville residents. That aspect of the case remains under investigation.
Morales and Torres are charged with aggravated robbery and are being held in lieu of $50,000 bond each.
