1. The driver killed in Sunday’s 12:50 a.m. single-vehicle crash on I-65 North is tentatively identified as a 29-year-old Franklin man. The Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the identification.
The preliminary investigation shows that he was driving a 2019 Mazda CX-5 north on I-65 North in Madison when, for reasons unknown, he left the roadway and struck a concrete block used for mounting interstate signage. The vehicle was quickly engulfed in flames. The driver died at the scene.
2. The woman killed in Sunday’s 12:20 a.m. single-vehicle crash on East Thompson Lane near Wimpole Drive is identified as Rachel Kaplan, 42, of Pinellas Park, Florida.
The preliminary investigation shows that she was driving a 2014 Dodge Challenger northbound at a high rate of speed when she apparently lost control of the car as she was crossing a bridge over Mill Creek and struck the bridge’s concrete wall. Kaplan, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.
There was no evidence of drug or alcohol involvement at the scene.
