Investigation by Violent Crimes detectives led to Monday night’s arrest of two auto theft suspects, Hilario Carreon-Vazquez, 19, and Austin Moore, 18.
Detectives were alerted by a D-Detail sergeant that a stolen Dodge Charger was parked outside Carreon-Vazquez’ residence. They observed him meet with Moore where the two exchanged cash. Carreon-Vazquez drove off in another car. A police helicopter followed Carreon-Vazquez until he was stopped by officers. Carreon-Vazquez admitted that he sold the Charger to Moore for $1,500. A loaded handgun and $3,400 cash were recovered from his vehicle.
Moore drove off in the stolen Charger and when officers attempted to stop him, he fled at a high rate of speed. Officers successfully deployed spike strips and Moore was taken into custody.
Moore and Carreon-Vazquez are each charged with vehicle theft. Moore is also charged with evading arrest.
