Detectives working the Violent Crimes Initiative Tuesday night located a 2008 silver Honda Accord, taken during a December 21 carjacking, traveling on Marcia Drive. With the assistance of a police helicopter, detectives followed the car to Tampa Drive at Harding Pike where two backseat passengers, ages 16 and 17, got out and fled on foot. They were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit.
The police helicopter continued to follow the Accord, providing information to ground units below, until the driver, Cy Griggs, 17, and front seat passenger, Erby Ervin, 14, also bailed from the vehicle on Casa Drive. Both were quickly taken into custody.
The Honda Accord was taken last week at gunpoint from a teen on Belton Drive. Griggs and Ervin are both charged in Juvenile Court with aggravated robbery and carjacking. The backseat passengers are charged with joyriding and evading arrest.
Griggs’ and Ervin’s photographs are being withheld pending lineups.
