Detectives late Thursday night charged two teenage brothers in connection with the 5:40 p.m. shooting of a 13-year-old at Highlands Apartments, 4646 Nolensville Pike. The 13-year-old suffered a wound to his shoulder and is being treated at Vanderbilt.
The investigation shows that a 15-year-old who lives in the apartment complex was outside handling a bolt action rifle when he said the gun went off, striking the victim. The 15-year-old then fled from the area before returning later in the night.
The shooter’s 16-year-old brother admitted to detectives that he came outside after hearing the shot. He took the rifle, hid it in the apartment, and told his brother to run. That rifle, and another bolt action rifle, were recovered from the apartment pursuant to a search warrant.
The 15-year-old is charged at Juvenile Court with felony reckless endangerment. His 16-year-old brother is charged at Juvenile Court with felony evidence tampering.
