Alexandria Dady, 29, surrendered herself last night in connection with Saturday afternoon's panicked mass exodus from Opry Mills Mall.
Dady is charged with kidnapping and aggravated assault after she attacked her ex-boyfriend inside Chili's, where he was employed. Due to reports of shots being fired, recorded announcements telling people to shelter in place were aired throughout the mall by management.
A review of surveillance video showed Dady punching and hitting her ex-boyfriend inside the restaurant. During an interview, the victim reported that Dady entered the kitchen where he was working and threw a glass at his head. He put up his right arm, the glass broke, and his arm and wrist were cut. The victim moved toward the exit. Dady then forced him outside into a black Dodge Challenger. An unidentified woman who was with Dady picked up a shoe from the ground, which may have been mistaken for a handgun. None of the witnesses present during the assault/kidnapping heard shots fired. The women let the victim out of the car around Bonnacreek Drive where his current girlfriend picked him up.
In addition to the panic caused by this incident, more than 40 officers were involved in the overall response, spending hours painstakingly clearing the mall store by store to ensure that no one was still inside or hurt. MNPD was greatly assisted by the Nashville Fire Department, OEM, and THP.
Dady, who has been convicted of aggravated assault, evading arrest, reckless endangerment involving a deadly weapon, and is an ex-con for traffic offenses, is free on $40,000 bond.
