A woman has been charged with failure to yield resulting in death in relation to the August 16, 2024, collision on I-65 North that critically injured Raymon Cruz-Sanchez who was part of a TDOT trash pick-up crew working alongside the interstate. Cruz-Sanchez, 49, died from his injuries in October 2024.
Brittany Bishop, 27, stated that she had some unknown mechanical issue with her car causing it to swerve left. Upon completing a download of the 2013 Hyundai Azera’s data recorder, it appeared that Bishop then overcorrected to the right, striking Cruz-Sanchez who became pinned between the trash trailer and her vehicle. He was wearing his reflective safety vest and standing near the trash trailer which was equipped with flashing lights and an arrow indicator, all of which were activated.
Based on the investigation, it appears that Bishop did not exercise due care/ failed to yield, resulting in Cruz-Sanchez’ death.
