Madison Ray, 25, is charged with vehicular homicide by recklessness, leaving the scene of a fatal cash, failure to render aid, aggravated child endangerment, and driving on a revoked license after today’s collision on N Gallatin Pike at Conference Drive that claimed the life of motorcyclist, Elijah Whittington, 20.
The preliminary investigation shows that Ray was driving a Honda Accord north on Gallatin Pike when she drove around motorists who were waiting in the left turn lane to drive onto Conference Drive. According to witnesses, once Ray had passed the vehicles, she turned left into the path of Whittington, who was riding his motorcycle southbound on Gallatin Pike. He was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he died.
Immediately after the collision, Ray grabbed her 2-year-old child from the backseat and fled on foot. Responding officers located her at a nearby store and took her into custody. Ray was treated for minor injuries. Her child was not hurt. There was no evidence of impairment on the part of Ray, who said she left the scene because she was unlicensed.
