Chief John Drake today proudly announced the promotion of 47 MNPD veterans, 12 to the rank of lieutenant and 35 to the rank of sergeant, to fill existing supervisory vacancies in a number of MNPD components. These 47 individuals put themselves in a position to be promoted by preparing for and taking independently administered written and oral examinations.
“The frontline leadership of our sergeants and lieutenants is key in our daily public safety mission as we rely on them to advance our three major pillars as a department: organizational excellence, precision policing and community engagement,” Chief Drake said. “I am confident that these 47 individuals will report to work each day with a renewed sense of purpose to protect Nashville’s neighborhoods and help those who need our assistance.”
The 12 sergeants being promoted to lieutenant are:
- Steven Bowers, a 15-year MNPD veteran who will now lead the North Precinct’s evening shift. Bowers holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee State University.
- Michelle Coker, a 15-year MNPD veteran, who will supervise the Office of Community Outreach & Partnerships. Coker holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Trevecca Nazarene University.
- Blake Giles, an 8-year MNPD veteran who will now lead the Hermitage Precinct’s evening shift. Giles holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee.
- Brian Gottschall Jr., a 14-year MNPD veteran who will now lead the Madison Precinct’s overnight shift. Gottschall holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Strayer University.
- Ryan Hartley, a 15-year MNPD veteran who will now lead the Central Precinct’s overnight shift. Hartley holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
- Zachary Huber, a 9-year MNPD veteran, who will now lead the Midtown Hills Precinct’s evening shift. Huber holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Master’s Degree from Bethel University.
- Brittany McElwee, a 10-year MNPD veteran, who will now lead the East Precinct’s day shift. McElwee holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Pensacola Christian College.
- Rachael Reese, an 8-year MNPD veteran who will be a supervising lieutenant in the Special Victims Division. Reese holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Austin Peay State University.
- John Robinson, a 12-year MNPD veteran who will now lead the Madison Precinct’s evening shift. Robinson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kentucky.
- Michael Vaughn, a 13-year MNPD veteran who will lead the Specialized Investigations Division’s Interdiction Unit. Vaughn holds an Associate’s Degree from Nashville State Community College.
- James Williams, a 14-year MNPD veteran, who will be a supervising lieutenant in the Traffic Unit. Williams holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Kentucky and a Master’s Degree from Northwestern University.
- Michael Willis Jr., a 10-year MNPD veteran, who will now lead the Midtown Hills Precinct’s overnight shift. Willis holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Sewanee: The University of the South.
The 35 officers being promoted to sergeant are:
- Kimberly Annson, a 5-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the Hermitage Precinct’s day shift. Annson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University.
- Ricki Armstrong, an 8-year MNPD Veteran who will now be a supervisor on the North Precinct’s day shift. Armstrong holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
- Donnell Barr, a 13-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the Central Precinct’s evening shift. Barr holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee.
- Torrance Bennett, a 10-year MNPD veteran, who will now be a supervisor on the Midtown Hills Precinct’s evening shift. Bennett holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
- Zachariah Bevis, a 15-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the Hermitage Precinct’s day shift. Bevis holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of North Alabama.
- Michael Burgess, a 28-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the Midtown Hills Precinct’s evening shift. Burgess holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Kentucky University.
- Dustin Chester, an 11-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the Central Precinct’s overnight shift. Chester holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
- Tyler Conrads, a 7-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the South Precinct’s overnight shift. Conrads holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Montclair State University.
- Robert Croteau, an 8-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the Madison Precinct’s evening shift. Croteau holds an Associate’s Degree from Volunteer State Community College.
- Victoria Cunningham, a 7-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the North Precinct’s day shift. Cunningham holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Middle Tennessee State University.
- Michael Dance, a 7-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the South Precinct’s evening shift. Dance holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
- Curtis Fisher, an 8-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the North Precinct’s evening shift. Fisher holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Daymar Institute.
- Joshua Hargrave, an 11-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the Madison Precinct’s evening shift. Hargrave holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Baptist Bible College.
- Raymond Heymann, a 7-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the Hermitage Precinct’s evening shift. Heymann holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Harding University.

- Charles Shaw, a 16-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the Central Precinct’s day shift. Shaw holds a Bachelor’s Degree from American Intercontinental University.
- Brian Smith, a 7-year MNPD veteran who will now be a supervisor on the South Precinct’s day shift. Smith holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Tennessee Tech University.
