North Precinct detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Thursday’s 6:15 p.m. fatal shooting of Jeremy Barbee, 44, in the 2300 block of Ilolo Street.
The preliminary investigation shows that Desontae Evans, 27, and his father, Douglas Evans, 63, were driving down Ilolo Street when they were blocked in by two vehicles. John Eisom, 44, reportedly got out of one of the vehicles with a crowbar while Barbee emerged from the second armed with a pistol. Eisom and Barbee then allegedly removed Desontae Evans from his vehicle and struck him with the crowbar. Douglas Evans reported that he heard gunshots during the assault and, in fear for his son’s life, retrieved his gun. He fired, striking Eisom and Barbee.
Barbee died at the scene. Eisom was transported to Vanderbilt Medical Center where he is in stable condition. Desontae Evans, who was also shot, was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he is in stable condition.
The incident apparently stemmed from a separate altercation earlier in the day at another location. There are no charges at present. The investigation continues.
