Alex Lockwood’s work at the Shelby Bottoms Nature Center depicts native plants - including Gattinger’s Clover, Limestone Fameflower, Glade Larkspur and the Tennessee Purple Coneflower - made from plastic waste. Please join us to welcome this whimsical yet educational collection of art created by local artist Alex Lockwood!
This work is both a celebration of the cedar glade and a dystopian vision: Lockwood imagines his plants come from a future that has been permanently altered by the garbage we relentlessly generate.
In his telling, over time our waste has broken down and infused itself into every fiber of the natural world - reworking all flora and fauna into plasticized versions of their original forms.
